Balanced Literacy Instruction uses all valid parts of literacy instruction, not one approach. It encompasses learning requirements for all students, from emergent to conventional.
Presented in relation to supporting students with Complex Communication Needs (CCN), this introductory workshop assists educators to help students understand that reading involves thinking and meaning-making and to become more strategic in their own reading.
The workshop explores:
- Shared reading (for students who are emergent in their literacy skills), including focusing on the interaction and building concepts about print and language.
- Repeated book reading of same text with different purposes
- How to teach students to read with comprehension with increasing levels of information we get from texts.
- The Anchor, Read, Apply framework
- Selecting the text
This workshop is most appropriate for school staff and therapists who support students who are currently using a communication aid.
Free for all Victorian Government School Staff.
This workshop will take place online.
