The Real Word is a panel comprised of individuals who have spent time in foster care after experiencing abuse, neglect, or abandonment by their parents or caregivers. The “Reunion” panel will feature two Real Word alumni — Josh and Candace — along with their Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs), Tim and Genevieve, who together will reflect on foster care, pivotal moments in their lives, and the role of CASAs. Even more special, attendees will be able to see the special bond between the panelists and their CASAs, which has remained strong through transitions into adulthood, careers, and family life.
Award-winning journalist and co-host of KPBS Midday Edition, Maureen Cavanaugh, will guide a discussion with the panelists about their childhood, life since foster care, and the things that have helped them overcome their circumstances and find hope.
The event is free and open to the public, though not appropriate for children. Space is limited. Secure your spot today!
ABOUT VOICES FOR CHILDREN
Voices for Children believes every child deserves a safe and permanent home. To ensure children in foster care have every opportunity to achieve stability, we match them with caring volunteers – called CASAs – who advocate for their best interests. Learn more at speakupnow.org.
