March Eggheads: Two Timely Topics — Child Care and Prescription Drug Costs

The costs of child care and prescription drugs are key health issues affecting Coloradans, and both are essential factors in the well being of our communities. Why is child care a health care issue? When parents and guardians have trouble finding or affording child care, they also struggle to access the health care they need and report worse general and mental health. Unmet child care needs in Colorado vary by geography, race/ethnicity, and income.

Nearly half of all Coloradans take at least one prescription medication and many struggle to afford the cost. When people can’t afford their prescriptions they make choices that affect their health and often report worse general and oral health.

During this scrambled Eggheads, we’ll highlight data from the Colorado Health Access Survey showing the impact of these costs on Coloradans in different regions of the state.
