The webinar will discuss what the law says and the legal requirements for driving, as well as advice from an optometrist on good eye health and importance of regular eyesight tests and lots more. During her early twenties Val became a voice-over artist and she was soon snapped up to present Blue Peter. After leaving the show in 1972, Val went on to present Nationwide from 1972 to 1976. She also became Blue Peter's roving reporter, popping up in studio and on film reports and fronting the Blue Peter Special Assignments. Val's last report was in 1981 - nearly two decades after she made her debut. Stints on the Money Programme for BBC2 and PM on Radio 4 followed. She is still an ardent supporter of Blue Peter. In 1994 Valerie was presented with an OBE in 1994 for services to broadcasting. More recently she has worked closely with the road safety and breakdown organisation GEM Motoring Assist to promote safer driving in older age. Rob Heard (Co-Host @Chair and Found Older Drivers Forum) Rob Heard is the founder and Chairperson of the Older Drivers Forum. Rob has previously been in the Police Force for 30 years, being part of the Roads Policing department for 27 years. Rob is passionate about Road Safety and prior to retirement he was the Sergeant in charge of Road Safety for Hampshire and Thames Valley Police. Rob still works with the Police as a volunteer running their Older Drivers programme. He is a member of the National Older Drivers Task Force and chairs the committee looking at self help and support. The task force presented a national strategy to the UK government in Nov 2021 to give help and support to older drivers to carry on driving safely for longer with some key recommendations. Rob has won numerous national awards for his work with Older Drivers and recently been awarded a lifetime achievement award from Road Safety Support. He is also one of the organising parties in the National Drivers Eyesight Campaign in 2023, titled “Is Your Vision Roadworthy?’ Henry Leonard (Head of Clinical and Regulatory @Association of Optometrists (AOP)) Henry Leonard is the Head of Clinical and Regulatory at the Association of Optometrists (AOP), and continues to work as an optometrist in community practice. His work for the AOP involves providing tailored clinical and regulatory advice to the AOP’s members, and drafting UK-wide guidance on range of topics relevant to optometrists. Henry also acts as a media spokesperson for the AOP and has been interviewed on national radio, television and in print on a range of eye-related topics. In relation to vision and driving, Henry has been closely involved with the AOP’s annual “Don’t Swerve a Sight Test” campaign, which has included articles in print media, and TV appearances on BBC and Sky news channels. Henry has also attended parliamentary round table events aimed at changing the law around vision and driving.
