New Wage and Employment Laws Impacting Construction
Last year, Virginia’s governor signed into law nearly two dozen bills that provide significant new workplace rights for Virginia employees, and create new risks for employers. Learn how these new laws are likely to disproportionately impact the building trades and construction industry in the Commonwealth.

In this webinar, Bean, Kinney & Korman Shareholders Tim Hughes, and Doug Taylor will discuss how these far-reaching changes may affect your workplace and discuss updates to your employment policies and practices to limit potential exposures and legal risks from the new laws.

The discussion will cover the following topics:

• The Virginia Wage Payment Law, which creates a new private right of action, and enhanced damages, for employees to collect payment of wages due.

• The Virginia Wage Theft Law: Joint and several liability for general contractors whose subcontractors violate wage payment and employee classification wage payment violations of subcontractors, and

• Worker Misclassification: New civil sanctions and back tax exposure for employers who misclassify workers as independent contractors, and not employees.
