Back for another installment on October 21 from 2-3:30 PM, our popular Let's Talk Physical program will kick-off with RIAA’s Josh Friedlander, SVP of Research & Economics, exploring the physical music marketplace as revealed in the recent RIAA Mid-Year Music Industry Revenue Report. The research shows that total physical value in the first half of 2021 was up 75.7% over the first six months of 2020, reinforcing how deeply Americans continue to value and engage with physical music products.
Our featured conversation will address growing concerns around damaged vinyl product. With no industry standards for factory sealed carton counts, corrugate weight recommendations, packing material and storage guidelines, shipping standards and more, often product is reaching fans in less than pristine state and stores in conditions not suitable for resale. Vinyl is a precious commodity for stores, online retailers and fans alike and it’s time to work together for a solution to minimize damages. Our panel will expose the packaging challenges faced by retailers, labels, and pressing plants and begin to discuss best approaches for optimizing shipping practices. Music Biz will introduce our new Vinyl Product Best Practices Task Force that will continue the conversation started during this event. To be comprised of representatives from across the industry including pressing plants, distributors, wholesalers, labels and retailers, the task force will work to publish and communicate guidelines and recommended industry standards over the coming months. More information about how you can sign-up to be considered to be part of the task force will be shared during the event.
