Inspiration from Zion “Israel’s Olympic Heroes and History: Past, Present, and Future”
Join the Genesis 123 Foundation’s Inspiration from Zion VIP Webinar Series on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 8:00 pm Israel/1:00 pm EST (US) for “Israel’s Olympic Heroes and History: Past, Present, and Future” with three special Israeli Olympian guests, Beatie Deutch, Ori Sasson, and Ankie Spitzer.

Israel’s 2020 Olympic Team was to be its largest ever, from judo to sailing, and running to baseball. This fulfills the dream of its founders of Israel being recognized as equals among the nations. Yet even with sports being non-political, since 1952 when Israel first participated in the Olympics, Israeli athletes have faced discrimination and even murder.

What is it like to represent Israel in international competition? What unique preparations and precautions are needed as an Israeli? We will dialogue with marathon runner Beatie Deutsch, and learn about her path to becoming a celebrated and successful runner, and balancing that with being a Sabbath-observant Orthodox Jewish woman and mother of five. We will hear from Bronze Medalist in Judo, Ori Sasson, who has become a giant in Israel not just for his win, but for how he competed against and defeated an Egyptian judoka who broke protocol and refused to shake his hand. And we will visit with Ankie Spitzer, widow of Israel’s 1972 fencing coach, Andre Spitzer, one of the 11 Israelis athletes killed in the 1972 Munich Olympics and remember them and discuss her fight to get the international Olympic community to do so.

Advanced registration is required. If you’re unable to participate, please register anyway so we can share the video with you. After registration, you’ll receive an email confirmation with instructions for logging in. Please add that to your calendar.
