The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) is thrilled to host its Inaugural Disability Advocacy Summit on July 16-17, 2021. The virtual conference is an opportunity for disability advocates across the state to connect, collaborate, and advance their leadership and advocacy skills. All skill and experience levels are welcome.
TCDD’s Disability Advocacy Summit attendees will include self-advocates (people with disabilities), family members, professionals, and youth. Invitations have been sent to past and present participants of TCDD leadership and advocacy training programs.
The summit will feature keynote presentations from Carolyn Krawczyk, producer of Overheard with Evan Smith and ATX Together at Austin PBS, and Santa Perez, self-advocate, writer, and chairperson of the Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities. Concurrent sessions each day will cover topics ranging from advocacy basics and goal-setting to issue-specific deep dives, learning how to build a coalition from the ground up, how to tell your story, and more. Sessions will also provide opportunities to connect with peer groups and advocates living in your region of the state. Participants can attend as many sessions as they would like and the event is free for all attendees.
Sessions run July 16, 9 AM - 3:30 PM and July 17, 9 AM- 12:30 PM. The full conference agenda is available at https://tcdd.texas.gov/news/disability-advocacy-summit/.
