Inspiring Engagement & Igniting Learning: SEAL Teaching and Learning Outcomes in 12 School Districts
Join us as we discuss the evaluation findings to SEAL’s new multiyear rigorous evaluation that studied the replication of its model. We’ll also explain how SEAL-aligned approaches are a strategy for pandemic recovery for ELs.

From 2015 to 2019, Loyola Marymount University’s Center for Equity for English Learners (CEEL), in partnership with the Wexford Institute, conducted a rigorous multi-year evaluation of the Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) model in 67 schools from 12 districts. The evaluators found that SEAL improved teaching practices and that SEAL English Learners demonstrated stronger student engagement as well as positive language development and academic outcomes. This evidence demonstrates that SEAL can be replicated at scale.

Additionally, schools need plans to accelerate learning for ELs and DLLs, who have been affected by the challenges of remote learning and quarantines, across California and the nation. Our evaluation study demonstrates that SEAL, and aligned approaches, can help schools in these monumental tasks.
