QGIS for preparing and visualising hydrological data
Preprocessing open data for hydrological and hydraulic modelling using QGIS

QGIS offers great tools for preparing data for hydrological and hydraulic modelling. This webinar will demonstrate how QGIS can be used to derive catchments and stream networks from digital elevation models. In addition, the webinar will focus on map design and 2D/3D visualisation of hydrological data in QGIS.

1 hour program:
- 10mins: Krey Price from Surfacewater Solutions, will moderate the conversation, and introduce the topic.
- 15mins: Johannes van der Kwast from IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, will share catchment delineation steps and the results and explain which tools were used.
- 15mins: Kurt Menke from Bird's Eye View, will share and explain engaging QGIS hydrological data visualisation materials, showing some of the cartographic capabilities of QGIS.
- 20mins: live Q&A with Saber Razmjooei from Lutra Consulting and all speakers.

Hans van der Kwast
Senior Lecturer @IHE Delft Institute for Water Education
Hans holds a PhD in Physical Geography. During his previous work at the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) in Belgium he participated in projects related to water quality modelling, land-use change modelling and the use of remote sensing for urban applications. Since 2012 he has worked at IHE Delft, the largest international graduate education institute in the field of water. In his teaching and capacity-development projects he actively promotes the use of open source tools and open data by young professionals from the water sector in the Global South. For this purpose he has developed free and commercial educational products. He co-authored the book QGIS for Hydrological Applications.
Kurt Menke
Founder @Bird’s Eye View
A former archaeologist, Kurt is a geospatial generalist based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. He received a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of New Mexico in 2000. That same year he founded Bird’s Eye View to apply his expertise with GIS technology towards solving the world’s mounting ecological, economic and social issues. Mr. Menke has a broad skillset. He is a spatial analyst, cartographer, trainer/teacher and author. He is an open source GIS authority, recently authoring his fifth and sixth books on QGIS: Discover QGIS 3.x and QGIS for Hydrological Applications with Locate Press. In 2015 he became an OsGeo (Open Source GeoSpatial Foundation) Charter Member. He teaches on a regular basis. His offerings range from a semester long Intro to FOSS4G course he originally developed in 2009, to short courses and professional workshops. In 2015 he was awarded the Global Educator of the Year Team Award by GeoForAll as part of the GeoAcademy team.
Saber Razmjooei
Managing Director @Lutra Consulting
Saber Razmjooei, is the Managing Director, Lutra Consulting. Saber holds an Msc in Water Resource Engineering. He worked in the water sector in the UK for 10 years, before starting Lutra Consulting. Lutra is one of the core developers of QGIS, a free and open source GIS application. In addition to their contribution to QGIS, Lutra has developed a number of services and applications.
