Topic
Legal protections for whistleblowers – a comparison between the position in Australia and in the United States of America
Date & Time
Selected Sessions:
Mar 12, 2025 05:00 PM
Description
Please join the Human Rights Committee for a discussion about the importance of legal protections for whistleblowers and the different protections currently available in Australia and the United States of America.
A number of legal organisations, including the Law Council of Australia, have strongly supported significant reform to simply and clarify whistleblowing laws in Australia and provide improved access to necessary support and guidance for whistleblowers. In the context of the Australian Government’s consideration of whistleblowing reforms, including the recent introduction of a Private Members’ Bill for an Act to establish a Whistleblower Protection Authority and public consultation on the second stage of public sector whistleblowing reforms, this seminar provides a timely opportunity to hear from the following experts in laws on public interest whistleblowing, public integrity and governance and litigation involving persons who claim to be whistleblowers.
• Mary Inman, Partner, Whistleblower Partners, United States of America
• Professor AJ Brown, Griffith University and Chair of Transparency International Australia
• Regina Featherstone, Associate Legal Director, Human Rights Law Centre
Larissa Andelman, 153 Phillip and member of the Human Rights Committee, will chair the seminar.
