His Excellency Erlan Idrissov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United Kingdom and the Rt Hon the Lord (Peter) Lilley, President of the Conservative Friends of Eurasia are pleased to invite you to a special online event
A celebration of the 175th anniversary
of the great Kazakh poet and thinker
The brightest representative of the 19th century Kazakh intellectual aristocracy, Abai is widely considered the founding father of Kazakh written literature. He was also a cultural reformer and thanks to his translations of the Russian and European classics acted as a vital bridge between Kazakh, Russian and European cultures.
The event follows this month’s groundbreaking launch of a seminal production by Cambridge University Press and Kazakhstan’s National Bureau of Translations of the first complete English-language volume of Abai’s poems and treatises.
It will also provide an opportunity to discuss deepening cultural, educational and commercial ties between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom.
