Killer dialogue is essential to any story. When you binge your favorite show or read your favorite book, chances are, the dialogue crackles and the characters all speak in their own unique voice and nothing seems extraneous. This begs the question: "How do I do that?" Emily will unpack some of the mysteries that make scenes sink or swim: conflict (internal/external), wants/objective, generality/specificity, core wound/void and finally,voice, voice, VOICE! Other possible topics include: How to sneak in exposition without six hours of backstory? Be funnier? More suspenseful? It all comes back to what you (and they) want and how they express it. Class will consist of a dynamic lecture, some writing prompts, and a handout.
