Sustainable in the City presents Riding into a Sustainable Future
Description
Have you ever sat in your car in stand-still traffic or searched tirelessly for a parking spot and thought, there must be another way? If NDOT and WeGo have anything to say about it, there is. Imagine yourself zipping along Nashville’s streets, hopping off near your destination, and not having to worry about parking. Many of us are unfamiliar with this way of moving around the city but public transportation can be safer, greener, and cheaper overall when compared to relying on cars alone. On average, Nashvillians spend 33 hours a year in traffic so let’s break down some barriers around how we get more people out of their cars and into alternative transit. Join us for a discussion with Diana Alarcon, Director of NDOT, and Stephen Bland, Chief Executive Officer of WeGo Public Transit, as we discover how our transit system is evolving and how we all can ride with sustainability in mind.

Hi there, You are invited to a Zoom webinar. When: Feb 8, 2023 12:00 PM Central Time (US and Canada) Topic: Sustainable in the City presents Riding into a Sustainable Future Register in advance for this webinar: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_IF3x-JpXQTq--KKmKSUnYA After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. ---------- Webinar Speakers Diana Alarcon (Director @Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure) Director Alarcon has more than 30 years of private and public sector experiences. She champions sustainability and mobility initiatives, such as complete street designs and citywide bike ways and greenways. She is creating a true multimodal transportation network for bicyclist, pedestrians, transit, and vehicles through reassignment of existing rights-of-way and ensuring the connectivity. She also builds partnerships with the private sector on creating mobility hubs that connects all modes including new trending modes such as micro-mobility. Stephen G. Bland (Chief Executive Officer @WeGo Public Transit) Lending leadership expertise from transit systems both large and small, Steve views his primary purpose as chief executive officer of WeGo Public Transit to be a steadfast steward of the greater Nashville community. He is honored to serve as an advocate for the system becoming an even more gratifying part of the lives of current riders and an appealing consideration for future travelers. Steve believes providing safe and efficient transit is an essential public service for growing cities and is committed to ensuring WeGo's service continues to rise at every level. He's happy to be at the helm of making positive changes for Nashville, to be living in a city where he and his wife can dine at amazing restaurants and where he can continue to work on his admittedly rather bad golf game.
