Cataract surgery is the leading surgical procedure in the US. It is estimated that 9 million surgeries will be performed annually by 2030. The ongoing demand for early surgical intervention along with enlarging armamentarium of options enables us to deliver excellent visual outcomes and improved quality of life much earlier than ever. The history of intraocular lens development/phacoemulsification along with current platforms, advanced technology lens and femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery will be explored and presented. Case presentation and management to optimize outcomes will be discussed.
