Description
Welcome to our 90-minute online webinar on Gender and Waste Management, hosted by UNEP's International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC). In this insightful session, we aim to shed light on the crucial connection between waste management and gender. Background: While waste management is often perceived as gender-neutral, our discussion will unveil the deep-seated gender inequalities and roles within this realm. Millions globally are involved in waste management, especially for high-value waste streams like plastic and e-waste. The informal sector, predominantly comprised of men and women, highlights disparities in roles and opportunities. From higher-authority positions for men to lower-income tasks for women, gender norms permeate every aspect of waste management. Objectives: This webinar aims to guide policymakers and stakeholders in mainstreaming gender into national waste management policies. Speakers from different countries will share experiences and lessons learnt on how to incorporate gender into national waste management policy. Topics to be Covered: ・How are gender issues addressed in national waste management policies/strategies/action plans? ・What role did your organization (or other key stakeholders) play in mainstreaming gender into national waste management policies/strategies/action plans? ・What were the key successful factors and challenges in mainstreaming gender into national policies/strategies/action plans?
