Specially Designed Instruction
Everyone has heard the statement “it’s not rocket science”, relative to making something happen. When we talk about specially designed instruction (SDI), the statement does not apply. Specially designed instruction that results in improved student performance requires the analytical skills of a detective, the research skills of a scientist, , and the planning and monitoring skills of a project manager. So, how do we make this happen in our classrooms?

Participants are introduced to tools and strategies that help identify learning barriers, select targeted supports to overcome the barriers, and design instruction to accelerate learning. Examples of SDI and the role of the teacher/s in providing the instruction demystify what SDI looks like in a typical classroom. It IS rocket science, and the information provided will help with a successful launch ad landing.
