We're excited to present Dantiel W. Moniz, author of the collection, MILK BLOOD HEAT. This debut has already won praise from Lauren Groff, Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, and Roxane Gay. For this event, Moniz will be in conversation with Megan Giddings, author of the acclaimed novel Lakewood. This event is free.
Milk Blood Heat depicts the sultry lives of Floridians in intergenerational tales that contemplate human connection, race, womanhood, inheritance, and the elemental darkness in us all. Set among the cities and suburbs of Florida, each story delves into the ordinary worlds of young girls, women, and men who find themselves confronted by extraordinary moments of violent personal reckoning. These intimate portraits of people and relationships scour and soothe and blast a light on the nature of family, faith, forgiveness, consumption, and what we may, or may not, owe one another.
The title story from this collection won the 2018 Alice Hoffman Prize for Fiction from Ploughshares. Moniz has been published in Tin House, McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, The Yale Review. Copies of Milk Blood Heat are available from Boswell at https://www.boswellbooks.com/book/9780802158154 for 20% off, through at least March 11.
