Fire Safety Seminar with Michael Vollmer
The Fire Safety Seminar taking place on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Noon will feature guest speaker Michael Vollmer of the Tahoe Resource Conservation District (Tahoe RCD). Michael Vollmer is a Registered Professional Forester and Certified Arborist with experience in soil science, forestry, wildland fuels management, fire adapted communities' concepts, prescribed fire, plant taxonomy, and grant management. He has over 27 years of experience in natural resource and environmental program management. Michael has worked throughout Northern California, Northern Nevada, and has been working on wildfire issues in the Tahoe Basin since 2001. He held forest management positions at the Institute of Sustainable Forestry, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, North Tahoe Fire District, and the Nevada Division of Forestry. Currently, Michael is the Fire Adapted Communities Program Manager and Central Sierra Shared Steward Advisor at the Tahoe Resource Conservation District for the Tahoe Basin. Michael is passionate about this work but he also likes to play and during his free time, enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, photography, spending time with is family and pretty much anything that gets him outside. Michael's presentation will include a brief review of Christmas Valley's successful wildfire preparedness work. His talk will focus on the importance of creating defensible space and home hardening.
