During this webinar for child welfare professionals, a parent support specialist and mother of a daughter with FASD will discuss the parenting strategies needed for children who have experienced trauma, including trauma in-utero, such as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. You will learn how to help parents and caregivers learn and apply trauma-responsive parenting strategies and support caregivers through challenges with these new techniques.
Why should I attend this webinar?
Consequence-based parenting strategies can cause further harm to children who have experienced trauma and negatively affect relationships with their caregivers. The brain differences of these young people require a different, trauma-responsive approach to parenting.
Learning new ways of parenting, though, can be challenging for parents and caregivers. It’s important for the child welfare professionals in their lives to understand the different parenting strategies needed to care for children who have experienced trauma.
Presenter: Barb Clark, North American Council on Adoptable Children
Audience: New or experienced parent group leaders and staff of public or private agencies that provide training or support to resource parents.
