Adoption UK - Therapies Month: Equine Therapy” What is it? Who is it for? Where can I access it?

“Equine Therapy” is an increasingly popular modality, highly sought and appreciated by many families.

Despite not being currently covered by the Adoption Support Fund, there are a myriad of providers country-wide, offering different approaches and different activities with horses, all under the umbrella “Equine Therapy” from: Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Experiential Learning, Psychotherapy, Riding, Alternative Educational settings, Vaulting(!) and more.

So how do you choose the right service for your child(ren), or yourself? How do you identify the value of the qualifications and experience of the different settings and what questions should you ask when approaching a provider to ensure you access an emotionally/physically safe, effective and high animal welfare service?

*Equine and other Animal Assisted Therapies are not listed as approved therapies supported by the Adoption Support Fund. In this webinar Mary-Joy will share how the profession is addressing the issues and concerns of funders and statutory services, raising standards and evidencing competency through a new voluntary professional register.
