A Zoom Poetry Evening with Charles Seluzicki and Brittney Corrigan
We continue the celebration of National Poetry Month with the authors of two gorgeous new chapbooks: Brittney Corrigan and her chapbook Breaking, and Charles Seluzicki with his chapbook Elegiac. We welcome them to the Broadway Books virtual stage on Monday, April 26th, at 4:30 pm Pacific Time.

Elegiac by Charles Seluzicki is the first volume in the Cox Family Poetry Chapbook Series from Carnegie Mellon University Press. It is a collection of eleven elegies that remembers and celebrates the lives of lost friends of the poet. Seluzicki' s poems are classical in style and seek to engage in conversation with the dearly departed in an intimate and convincing sequence. Micheal Dickman says "Charles Seluzicki has delivered a late-breaking heartfelt and startlingly beautiful book of poems that seeks to remember and celebrate the lives of dear ones lost to him."

The poems in Brittney Corrigan's collection, Breaking, respond to stories in the news over the past several years. Many of the poems take on issues that are difficult to grapple with, including gun violence, suicide bombings, the current political state, climate change, and natural disasters. The collection is meant to be emotionally challenging but, ultimately, hopeful. John Sibley Williams says "Even the angels grieve in Brittney Corrigan's devastating collection of wounds, losses, and the kinds of courage needed to face such traumas." And Wendy Willis says "This is a book with both palms open--one in offering and the other in supplication...It is a book that asks us to turn our backs to the screen and tip our faces to the sky."
