Tackling modern slavery: whose responsibility is it?
The exploitation of other people for personal or commercial gain is a largely covert activity with enormous implications. Modern slavery involves the exploitation of children as well as adults, and it takes many forms, for example, sexual exploitation, forced labour, domestic servitude. The Global Slavery Index (2018) suggests over 40 million individuals are currently victims of modern slavery. In this webinar, we discuss the causes, the symptoms and crucially the responses to modern slavery. All those in protection services, in private and public sectors and not least those on the frontline, need to be aware of the problem and the range of responses available. Inherently linked to supply chains, the problem impacts on business, exploiting workers, undermining otherwise legitimate activities. Specifically, this webinar will:

Discuss the ways in which Covid-19 has impacted on scale and the visibility of modern slavery offences
Examine the effectiveness of current responses including the role of the security sector
Explore the relationship between increased internet use and how this relates to modern slavery, including online child abuse
