Prof Nikky-Guninder Kaur Singh drawing upon her work on the Guru Granth Sahib will discuss how the female was exalted by the Gurus to ensure equality. She will highlight how this ideal of equality has failed to translate into everyday reality, and on International Woman’s day #choosetochallenge she will explore and challenge the numerous ways that women are denied the equality the Gurus had envisaged for them.

Nikky-Guninder Kaur Singh was born in India, and went to Stuart Hall, a girls' preparatory school in the USA. She received her BA in Philosophy and Religion from Wellesley College in 1978, her MA from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982, and her PhD from Temple University in 1987.
