International Technical Webinar | Why develop capacities on risk management in agriculture?
This international technical webinar is part of the series organized by the FAO elearning Academy, Agreenium (French training and research alliance for agriculture, food, environment and global health), UN-ESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific), and Future Food Institute. This webinar is also part of the series Bridging the knowledge gap on the holistic risk management approach in developing countries, organized together with Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM) and the Forum for Agricultural Risk Management in Development (FARM-D) - which are hosted by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

This webinar will host a panel discussion on the importance to develop and strengthen capacities to understand the risk environment in agriculture, through practical examples and highlighting challenges. The event will also spotlight the leading approach to manage risks in a given context, which encompasses a holistic methodology, that has grounded the series of four elearning courses on agricultural risk management (ARM) developed by PARM and the FAO elearning Academy, in partnership with IFAD and NEPAD. This first webinar will cover the first two elearning courses, which focus respectively on understanding and assessing risks in agriculture.

• Raise awareness on the importance of ARM;
• Demonstrate the benefits of adopting a holistic and integrated risk management approach and strategy;
• Share experiences on capacity development activities for managing agricultural risks.

This technical webinar will be delivered by Ms Cristina Petracchi (Leader of the FAO elearning Academy), Mr Kisan Gunjal (FAO), Ms Mariam Sow Soumaré, Mr Richard Miiro (Makerere University, Uganda), Mr Massimo Giovanola (PARM/IFAD), and moderated by Mr Gideon Onumah (NRI).
