She returned to training in 2016 to train as an Addiction Physician with the RACP. She practices Addiction Medicine as a VMO at The Tweed Hospital and at Riverlands, Lismore Base Hospital Drug and Alcohol Service. She is also a GP VMO at Byron Central Hospital and the Chair of the Byron Shire Medical Council. Dr Hudson is the Director of The Yellow Gate Medical Clinic where she undertakes General Practice for people who use substances. She is a member of the Clinical Governance Committee for the Buttery, A NorDocs board member and a member of the NSW Ministry of Health Opioid Pharmacotherapy Subcommittee. David Helliwell (Visiting Medical Officer Addiction Medicine Northern NSW Local Health District @NNSW LHD) Dr. Helliwell wandered into the field of addiction medicine as a country GP in Nimbin, NSW in the 1980s. Following an outbreak of Hepatitis B, he established the first rural needle and syringe exchange in NSW. Shortly after he established the first rural methadone clinic in NSW. In 2000 Dr Helliwell helped establish Riverlands, a regional drug and alcohol service in Lismore covering Northern NSW between Tweed Heads and Grafton. In 2004 he was awarded Foundation Fellowship of the Chapter of Addiction Medicine at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Dr Helliwell continues to follow his passion for addiction medicine and is actively involved in teaching medical students as a Senior Lecturer at Sydney University through Lismore's University College of Rural Health. Michael Burgess (CNS Drug & Alcohol @NNSW LHD) Michael Burgess is a clinical nurse specialist in drug and alcohol and has worked in this capacity at Byron Hospital for 20 years! A major component of the position is counselling which allows an understanding of patterns in people's lives. He has a background in emergency and critical care nursing, and has managed a residential withdrawal unit and residential treatment program. He still enjoys working in the drug and alcohol sector and appreciates the privilege of being placed in a trusted position by clients, often when they are at a crisis point. On days off he can be found in the surf, playing football, hanging out with his horse or on the golf course.
