High Tech In The Holy City: Multiple Threats - One Lab
Description
Join the Embassy of Israel and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to explore the exciting new technology that Israel’s leading experts have been waiting for to battle current and future viruses. Hear about the only laboratory that will enable Israel’s universities and biotech companies to securely handle these threats and how The University and the Ministry of Health are making it happen.
Israeli researchers are noted for their creative innovation and ability to produce impressive results on a shoestring budget. The addition of an ABSL-3 lab to the nation’s medical research infrastructure will provide these world- renowned scientists with access to the newest and safest equipment, advancing important ongoing research and enhancing Israel’s place in the forefront of SARS-CoV-2 research, while adding to the infrastructure needed to forestall future viral outbreaks.

Hi there, You are invited to a Zoom webinar. When: Feb 24, 2021 11:30 AM Eastern Time (US and Canada) Topic: High Tech In The Holy City: Multiple Threats - One Lab Register in advance for this webinar: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_NH-m96oGQdetfqm3V2Hh3g After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. ---------- Webinar Speakers Professor Ilan Rosenshine (Professor at the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetic @Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI)) Prof. Ilan Rosenshine is the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and has previously served as Head of Institute of Microbiology and Head of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Prof. Rosenshine and his research group are studying the mechanism of bacterial virulence exploiting Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) and its interaction with epithelial cells as a primary model system. EPEC is a human-pathogen that targets the intestine causing conditions ranging from asymptomatic colonization to life threatening disease. EPEC carries a powerful virulence machinery termed type III secretion system (T3SS), which functions as a nano-syringe utilized to inject into the host cells a complement of proteins termed effectors. These effectors subvert an array of host cell processes to benefit the pathogen. Prof. Rosenshine exploits this experimental system to expose basic principles of host-pathogen interactions, focusing mainly on aspects related to the T3SS function. Professor Re’em Sari (Vice President for Research and Development @The Hebrew University of Jerusalem) Professor Re’em Sari is the Vice President for Research and Development at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is a professor of astrophysics and has served as head of the Center for Astrophysics and Planetary Science at the Faculty of Science. Professor Sari’s research spans a variety of sub-fields in astrophysics, including the investigation of the mystery of gamma ray bursts and other cosmic explosions, the development of models for the creation and evolution of planets in our solar system as well as others and the study of the dynamics of stars surrounding black holes in the center of galaxies. Tammy Ben Haim (Minister for Public Diplomacy @Embassy of Israel to the United States) Tammy Ben-Haim is serving as Minister for Public Diplomacy at the Embassy of Israel in Washington DC since August 2018. As a career diplomat, Tammy has spent 15 years in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 20 years in civil service.
