Frontline leaders invite you to join them for a virtual press conference calling on BlackRock and Vanguard to adopt an Indigenous rights and Deforestation policy. The press conference marks a year since leaders from around the work sent BlackRock a letter asking it to adopt such policy.
The letter was signed by over 80 community leaders, environmental and land defenders, and activists from around the world demanding the company respect Indigenous and tribal peoples’ rights and stop financing the companies and industries driving violence and criminalization against land defenders, and environmental destruction.
BlackRock and Vanguard must act. Leaders will be calling on the asset managers to respond at this year's UN Permanent Forum whose theme is “Indigenous peoples, business, autonomy and the human rights principles of due diligence including Free, Prior and Informed Consent.”
The press conference comes just a month before BlackRock’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM), and around the time it is expected to release its interim targets for meeting its 2050 net zero goal.
