La CISS celebra una edición más de la Semana de la Seguridad Social con un programa que comprende un amplio abanico de temas, desde la divulgación de las infancias hasta el impacto de la salud mental y del envejecimiento poblacional en los sistemas de seguridad social. El objeto es divulgar la seguridad social para despertar interés en el público e inculcar la noción de que la seguridad social es un derecho humano universal inherente a todas y cada una de las personas, para así, trazar el camino hacia un futuro de bienestar para todo el hemisferio. Esta iniciativa nació durante la XXV Asamblea General de la CISS (Ciudad de Guatemala, 2009), donde se invitó a los Estados a decretar la última semana de abril como la Semana de la Seguridad Social. De ese encuentro nació la Declaración de Guatemala, respaldada por la OMS, la OPS, la OEA, la OIM y el Alto Comisionado de la ONU. The objective is to disseminate social security to generate interest in the public and instil the notion that social security is a universal human right inherent to each person, thus paving the way towards a future of well-being for the entire hemisphere. This initiative was born during the XXV General Assembly of the CISS (Guatemala City, 2009), in which the states were invited to decree the last week of April as Social Security Week. The Guatemala Declaration, endorsed by WHO, PAHO, OAS, IOM, and the UN High Commissioner, emerged from that meeting.
