The Magic of Theatre is the Spoken Word - Acoustics and AV Systems Design for Drama Theatres | 1 LU
Every word matters in a dramatic play or musical theatre performance. Design of the theatre space and its sound system are critical to its success. This presentation will address aspects of acoustical design and audiovisual design for different theatre configurations – proscenium, thrust, arena, “black box” – and performance styles – “straight” plays, musical theatre, opera. Design guidelines for achieving sound isolation and silent background noise conditions will also be addressed.

Jonah Sacks

Jonah Sacks consults on a variety of architectural acoustics and mechanical systems noise control projects. Since 2012, he has led Studio A, Acentech’s performing arts consulting practice. His recent architectural acoustics projects include performing arts facilities at conservatories and other higher education institutions, public gathering spaces, lecture and other teaching spaces, K-12 schools, laboratories, office spaces, and residential developments. Jonah regularly performs a variety of acoustical measurements, and often creates computer models and auralizations of acoustically critical spaces. He also has significant experience in community noise evaluation and prediction for new buildings.
Brian Masiello
Senior Consultant @Acentecch
Brian Masiello is a senior consultant concentrating on sound and audiovisual system design. He has been involved with a wide variety of projects that have required design and documentation of sound reinforcement and audiovisual presentation systems. Project types have included audio recording and broadcast studios, auditoria, gymnasia, classrooms, lecture halls, film/video screening rooms, worship spaces, courtrooms, technical theaters, performing arts centers, corporate facilities, cruise ships, fitness facilities, arenas, and museum spaces. Brian holds a Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification from the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA).
