Balanced Literacy Instruction uses all valid parts of literacy instruction, not one approach. It encompasses learning requirements for all students, from emergent to conventional.
Presented in relation to supporting students with Complex Communication Needs (CCN), this workshop assists educators to help students to become writers, developing the complexities required to write (i.e. idea generation, language, words, spelling and transcribing / selecting letters).
The workshop explores:
- Independent writing
- Function and form of writing
- Alternative pencils
- Shared writing (eg. Predictable chart writing)
- Real reasons for writing (not copying and tracing)
- Modelling writing
This workshop is most appropriate for school staff and therapists who support students who are currently using a communication aid.
Free for all Victorian Government School Staff.
This workshop will take place online.
