Free ATC Webinar: Future Code Changes Explained—Seismic Analysis and Design of Nonstructural Components and Systems
Description
This webinar will advance the audience’s knowledge of the fundamentals of nonstructural response, as well as changes in the code pertaining to design of nonstructural components.
In 2018, the Applied Technology Council completed the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-funded ATC-120 project series, which first reviewed seismic analysis, design, and installations of nonstructural components (resulting in NIST GCR 17-917-44) and then developed recommendations for improved seismic performance of these components (resulting in NIST GCR 18-917-43). Next, the Federal Emergency Management Agency supported the Building Seismic Safety Council to incorporate selected recommendations from the NIST GCR 18-917-43 report as updates into the 2020 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures. This work also included development of design examples to be used as a resource for nonstructural component design. The 2020 NEHRP Provisions were then used as the basis for the significant revisions to nonstructural design in ASCE/SEI 7-22, Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures.

Hi there, You are invited to a Zoom webinar. When: Aug 3, 2022 12:00 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada) Topic: Free ATC Webinar: Future Code Changes Explained—Seismic Analysis and Design of Nonstructural Components and Systems Register in advance for this webinar: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_OLLWNG-RRIumrlRQz0Yi5w After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. ---------- Webinar Speakers Bret Lizundia (Executive Principal @Rutherford + Chekene) Bret Lizundia, SE., is a structural engineer and principal at Rutherford + Chekene in San Francisco. He has over 30 years of experience in structural design of new buildings, seismic evaluation and rehabilitation of existing buildings, peer review and plan checking, and applied research and guideline development. He is a past president of the Applied Technology Council and the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California, was a member of the Project Technical Committee that developed NIST GCR 18-917-43, and was a member of the Provisions Update Committee that developed the 2020 NEHRP Provisions. Maryann Phipps (President @Estructure) Maryann Phipps, S.E., is the founder and President of Estructure in Oakland, California. She has nearly 40 years of experience evaluating, designing, and renovating buildings for earthquakes. Maryann’s hands-on structural engineering experience has made her a recognized expert in the field. She currently serves on seismic review boards for the University of California System and California State University System and chairs the Seismic Review Committee at University of California at San Francisco. Maryann was recently bestowed a lifetime achievement award by the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California. She was the chair of the Project Technical Committees that developed NIST GCR 17-917-44 and NIST GCR 18-917-43. Justin Moresco (Director of Projects @Applied Technology Council)
