Judge Theodore C. Zayner
Presiding Judge @Santa Clara Co. Superior Court
Judge Zayner was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009. He earned a B. A. in economics from Stanford University in 1979. He then received a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1983. He began his legal career in 1983. He first joined Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley. During his 15 year tenure there, he worked as an associate, eventually becoming partner. Then in 1998, he moved to Sandall & Penrose, where he practiced as an associate until 2003. He spent the next two years as a managing attorney with Forge & Zayner before starting his own practice. Then, just prior to his appointment to the bench, he accepted a position as an associate with Adleson, Hess & Kelly. His memberships included the Santa Clara County Bar Association and the Fair Elections Practices Commission. He also served on the Board of Governors of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. He was named Trial Judge of the year by SCCTLA in 2016.
Judge Beth A. R. McGowen
Assistant Presiding Judge @Santa Clara Co. Superior Court
Judge Beth McGowen began her legal career at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen. She began as a litigation associate, became counsel and then partner. Judge McGowen continued as a partner after the firm became Bingham McCutchen. Judge McGowen tried a variety of cases including intellectual property, healthcare, general commercial litigation and trade secret matters. She served as the firm’s National Hiring Partner and Office Hiring Partner for eleven years. She is also a past member of the Board of Directors for the Silicon Valley Law Foundation and the Santa Clara County Bar Association’s Women Lawyers Committee. Governor Schwarzenegger appointed her to the bench in 2009. Her judicial assignments have included criminal, juvenile justice, domestic violence and civil trials. She served on the South County Mayors' Gang Task Force and several Court Committees including the Strategic Planning Committee, the Domestic Violence Committee, the Education Committee, and the Grant Committee.
