In this session we look at planning sequences of lessons for children in KS2 and how reasoning can be embedded at each stage. We will see how equipment and images can be used to build understanding, then how they can be phased out as children build an abstract understanding. A range of techniques for deepening learning will be shown. We will also see how children can learn to become flexible in their use of mental calculation and in their approaches to solving problems. We will look in detail at sequences of lessons in multiplication, division and time. This will give teachers the knowledge and ideas to build sequences of lessons that progressively build children's understanding.
