Professor Sally Morton is Executive Vice President of Arizona State University’s Knowledge Enterprise, and she was previously Dean of the College of Science at Virginia Tech. Professor Ron Brookmeyer is Dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Our two distinguished panelists will share their leadership journeys and insights in a discussion moderated by Dr. Natalie Dean of Emory University.

Morton is the executive vice president of Arizona State University’s Knowledge Enterprise, which is responsible for the University’s research and economic development ecosystem. Morton advances research priorities, oversees ASU’s transdisciplinary institutes and initiatives, and drives corporate engagement and strategic partnerships, technology transfer, and international development. She is a professor in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences and the College of Health Solutions and holds the Florence Ely Nelson Chair. Ron Brookmeyer (Dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health @UCLA) Dr. Brookmeyer serves as dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. In his research, Dr. Brookmeyer uses the tools of the statistical, informational and mathematical sciences to address global public health problems. During a span of over three decades he developed statistical methods that sounded the alarm which helped address major global health challenges of our times. Dr. Brookmeyer earned worldwide recognition for his work on predicting the magnitude of the impending HIV/AIDS epidemic with work beginning in the mid-1980s. Dr. Brookmeyer has called attention to the looming Alzheimer’s disease epidemic through widely cited studies. His work on global public health problems also includes issues in bio-security, disease surveillance and health challenges of aging populations. Dr. Brookmeyer’s research interests in biostatistical methodology include survival analysis, epidemic models, epidemiological methods and clinical trials. Natalie Dean (Assistant Professor @Emory) Natalie E. Dean is an American biostatistician specializing in infectious disease epidemiology. Dean is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics and Department of Epidemiology in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Dr. Dean is an Assistant Professor at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public. She earned her PhD in Biostatistics from Harvard University and completed her postdoctoral work at the University of Florida. She was also a statistical consultant for the World Health Organization’s HIV Department. Before arriving at Emory, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida. Her areas of expertise are in infectious disease epidemiology and vaccine study design. Her research focuses on clinical trial and observational studies for evaluating vaccine efficacy, with a focus on emerging infectious diseases such as Ebola, Zika, and COVID-19.
