Stop Honor Killings Seminar
Through firsthand accounts from victims and survivors, this seminar facilitated by Dr. Rezvan Moghaddam will call attention to the inhumane act of honor killings. The seminar will emphasize legal actions that have been taken by activist and scholars to stop honor killings and the need to raise awareness globally.

Dr. Rezvan Moghaddam is a lecturer, scholar and women’s rights activist with over 40 years of experience in social change. She has been an active member of the Iranian women’s rights movement and has set up various associations, groups and committees to empower women on issues of peace, environment, health and gender issues such as violence against women.

Dr. Moghaddam is one of the founding members of the “One Million Signatures” campaign in Iran, which aimed to collect one million signatures in support of changing discriminatory laws against women in the country. As a result of her social activities, she was arrested by Iranian security forces on multiple occasions, harassed, and banned from teaching or presenting her research. In 2007, right before International Women’s Day, she was charged with “acting against national security” and “conspiracy” in Iran. She was convicted and sentenced to six months in jail and 10 lashes.

Dr. Moghaddam continues her struggle to end violence and discrimination against women abroad and has launched numerous campaigns, including the campaign to stop honor killings in 2020.
