Join artist Erdem Taşdelen for a discussion and virtual interview hosted by Michelle Callaghan, Head of Adult and Seniors Services at Richmond Public Library.
This partnership with Richmond Public Library and Richmond Art Gallery hosts artist Erdem Taşdelen to share his research and writings from his current exhibition at the Gallery, A Minaret for the General's Wife. The starting point for Erdem Taşdelen’s exhibition is a little-known architectural oddity, a freestanding Ottoman-style minaret located in the Lithuanian city of Kėdainiai.
In his search to uncover the origins of the Kėdainiai Minaret, Taşdelen assembled an installation of archival photos, documents, replicas of artifacts, audiovisual material, a curious selection of objects and a book of vignettes from undisclosed origins. Together, these elements expose and interrupt connections that enable historical storytelling, and through this tension forge a place wherein the artist elicits a multiplicity of readings.
