Quality Measurement 106: Measurement in Action “Modeling Improvement”

Description

The DQA is pleased to announce the 6th installment in their Quality Measurement in Dentistry Webinar Series in partnership with the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA). The goal of this webinar is to provide an overview of the DQA Open School Course of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s (IHI) Model for Improvement and share ongoing examples of this approach. This course is a first step to understand where we are and where we need to go to improve oral health care and, ultimately, health outcomes.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Gain familiarity with IHI’s Model for Improvement.
2. Learn how the DQA has incorporated clinical examples to support systems-level improvement.
3. Understand how this model for improvement has been implemented in two dental clinics to improve quality of care.

Webinar QM 106 is free to all interested participants.

The ADA designates this activity for 1.0 continuing education credits to those who join the live webinar.

The ADA is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry.

Dr. Schweinebraten has served on the ADA Board of Trustees and the Council of Dental Benefit Plans. She is a past-chair of the Dental Quality Alliance, current Chair of the DQA Education Committee, and has served as the American Academy of Periodontology representative on the DQA since its inception. Irene Hilton, DDS, MPH, FACD (Dental Consultant @National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA)) and a clinician at the San Francisco Department of Public Health. She is a graduate of the IHI Breakthrough Series College, and has been the chair of NNOHA's quality improvement collaboratives aiming to improve performance on the HRSA UDS Sealants Measure. She currently serves as a member of the the DQA executive committee representing the American Dental Association. Michael J. Raizen, DDS (Dentist @Denver Health and Hospitals) has practiced dentistry for 36 years, half of them at Denver Health, the safety net provider of integrated healthcare in Denver, Colorado. He is currently transitioning from clinical dentistry to managing tele dentistry and preventive dental programs at Denver Health. He is also the Chair of the Dental QI Workgroup and has worked on several projects with Denver Health’s Lean Systems Improvement Team. Angela Relf, DDS (Dental Director, Safford Clinic @Arizona Department of Corrections) is a graduate of Florida A&M University, and a graduate of Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry. Dr. Relf served as the Dental Chair at Mountain Park Health Center, Phoenix Arizona, from 2010 to 2017. She became a part of NNOHA faculty in 2018. During her tenure as Dental Chair, Dr Relf established the Same Day Sealant program, the Expanded Function Dental Assistant program, Dental/Pediatric Integration program, and the Affiliated Dental Hygienist program. The Dental department expanded from one dental clinic to three dental clinics and five dental integrated clinics during Dr. Relf’s tenure. Financially, the dental clinic reported a loss revenue of $400,000 in 2010 to a $1.1 million gain by 2014.
