For that reason, they were partly built in a dry dock and completed at a quay side at the “wet dock”. With dimensions of appr 65.000 DWT and 84x74x45 meter the caissons had to be installed at the Dardanelle Straight with a current that runs in two directions, this proofed to be a challenging task. Strukton Immersion Projects successfully installed the two caissons within 20 mm from its target position. A great achievement giving the DLSY JV a perfect basis for the erection of the 318 m high pylons. With a span between the two pylons of 2023 m the joint venture has set a new record for the longest suspension bridge in the world. Xu Xiang (researcher @Statens Vegvesen) Preview of the Owner’s Guide to SFT’s – WG 11 On behalf of the WG 11 committee which was dedicated to compile this owners which is planned to be published at WTC2023 in Athens, the main topics of the ‘Owner’s Guide to SFT’s’ will be presented. This guide is intended to give future owners the information they need, including terms and definitions, general requirements, design, construction, operation inspection and maintenance, in order to consider a Submerged Floating Tunnel (SFT) as a realistic safe economic alternative to bridges and conventional tunnels for crossing waterways. The Guide has been developed within the work of the WG 11 of ITA-AITES, involving a workgroup that includes representatives from the road authority, the industry contractors and research institutions. Jian Liu (WG 11 Vice Animateur @director of the chief engineer office at Shenzhen-Zhongshan fixed link) Main Key Technologies of the Widest SCS Immersed Tunnel under Construction in the World The Shenzhen-Zhongshan fixed sea link highway across the Pearl River estuary in China is currently under construction and is scheduled to open for traffic in 2024. The immersed tunnel is about 5km long and has four lanes in each direction and 8 lanes in total. In order to overcome lots of challenges for design and construction, some new technologies are applied for the steel-concrete-steel structure.
