Vaccine opposition messages in public media, especially social media, have more than doubled since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Already a large and organized movement, "anti-vaxxers" are leveraging the moment to increase their reach and influence. At the heart of this movement are a collection of fewer than 200 leaders, who create the talking points and strategies that thousands more employ in their disinformation campaign. This briefing will focus on these leaders: who they are, what are their similarities and what appears to be their agenda.
In this interactive training, the National Press Foundation will distribute to journalists a digital tool for tracking vaccine opposition. The Public Goods Projects created Project VCTR to providing weekly updates to vetted health organizations seeking to better understand vaccine opposition and the anti-vaccination movement. PGP is now scaling Project VCTR nationally, creating dashboards for all 50 states in the U.S. Project VCTR is funded by the New York State Health Foundation.
Note: Journalists who register with their affiliations will be sent log-on information to access the tool. The tool is embargoed. Accessing the tool means you agree to abide by the embargo and will not publish information about or use the tool prior to the end of the training program.
