Dysferlin Structure and Interactions
In protein chemistry, “structure determines function.” Dysferlin is a rather challenging protein to study as it is a large protein with many folding domains (at least 10 have been identified so far), and it appears to have multiple functions and a number of binding partners. Understanding the folding structure of dysferlin can help identify functions, as well as determine what changes to the amino acid sequence are pathogenic. Several research groups have been studying the folding structure and interactions of dysferlin using a variety of techniques. Although the folding structure and interactions of dysferlin aren’t yet completely understood, we think that there is a large amount of new data, which can serve to generate discussions, hypotheses, and collaborations in the research community.
