Bronwyn Katz and Kapwani Kiwanga in Conversation with Romi Crawford
Two Chicago exhibitions overlap in both time and topic: The Renaissance Society’s "Nine Lives" and The Arts Club's "Upkeep: Everyday Strategies of Care." Both group shows partake in the Feminist Art Coalition, a national initiative to explore the nuances of what feminisms might mean today (feministartcoalition.org). Interviewed by SAIC professor, curator, and critical scholar Romi N. Crawford, we bring together an artist from each exhibition to converse about areas of convergence or departure: South African Bronwyn Katz and Paris-based Canadian Kapwani Kiwanga. An apropos pairing, the two dissect their engagement with sculpture, materials, storytelling, and revisited histories.
