Homegrown: ISIS in America
Compared to participation by Americans in other jihadist groups, the scale of American involvement in ISIS today is unprecedented. In this installment of People, Politics, and Prose with Ron Granieri, authors Alexander Meleagrou-Hitchens and Seamus Hughes will discuss their recent book Homegrown: ISIS in America, that draws on first-hand interviews with former American Islamic State members and the law enforcement officials who tracked them. Granieri, Meleagrou-Hitchens, and Hughes will discuss the level of threat posed by ISIS in America, how many Americans have joined ISIS and want to return to the United States, and why ISIS was able to radicalize and recruit a new generation of jihadist sympathizers in America.
People, Politics, and Prose with Ron Granieri is a new FPRI event series that will feature in-depth conversations with authors of recent books on international affairs and national security. Moderated by FPRI’s Ronald J. Granieri, each session will build on the book’s contents to discuss the author’s influences and motivations, relating everything to current events to elicit broader understanding of the geographical, political, and historical context of our contemporary world.
