Join us for an online presentation on the Stamford Canal.
Ken Otter will talk about Lincolnshire's forgotten waterway.
History is written by the winners. Completed in 1761, the Bridgewater Canal is often touted as the first canal of the Industrial Revolution. Subsequently, it has become understood that this was the first canal, but it wasn't.
The Stamford Canal was Britain's premier canal. Built nearly 100 years earlier, it was completed by 1670 and in use for about 200 years.
So why does no-one know about it? Some academics refute that it was even a canal. That is the subject of this presentation by Ken Otter to those interested in local and national waterways; especially rivers and canals in Eastern England.
