It's a two-for-one special for our second virtual dairy farm tour in Indiana - two farms in one trip! Meet John Carter at Carter Dairy in Frankfort and Abbie Herr at Herr Dairy in Kendallville. These farms may seem very different, but they have one big thing in common - they use robots to milk their cows! Learn about the different types of housing at each farm and the technology they use to keep their cows healthy and happy.
John Carter and his dad milk a mixed herd of Holstein, Jersey, and Normandy cows on their grazing dairy near Frankfort. Since the cows are out in the pasture for part of the year, they test the soil and water around them to make sure it stays clean.
Abbie Herr loves spending time with her cows on the family's dairy farm outside of Kendallville. She knows the cows by name and many of them are mothers and daughters from several generations on the farm.
