This webinar draws on the presenters’ extensive expertise and experience to help participants understand the rationale for balanced assessment systems by starting with clearly articulating the intended uses of assessment results. This webinar will introduce participants to the criteria for judging the balance of a system of assessments because even though districts have many assessments, it does not mean they have a balanced system. This also involves an honest appraisal of how well current assessments are meeting these needs. This first webinar concludes with a discussion of the barriers to implementing balanced assessment systems. In other words, there are many reasons why we rarely see balanced assessment systems in practice. Understanding these barriers is the first step in overcoming them.
