Proteinuria - When do I need a renal biopsy?

Description

Proteinuria is a common laboratory finding, yet kidney biopsies are infrequently performed. During this webinar, we will discuss the diagnostic approach to proteinuria, including when a kidney biopsy should be considered. To help us understand the origin and causes of proteinuria, we will briefly talk about renal physiology. We will then discuss treatment for proteinuria, including how this can change based on the results of kidney biopsies. Finally, we will review some cases in which renal biopsies were performed.

He obtained his veterinary medicine degree from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 2014, having also completed a one-year intercalated degree in microbiology at the University of Liverpool. After working in first opinion practice for several years, Shaun undertook a rotating internship at the Animal Health Trust. This was followed by a three-year residence in small animal internal medicine, which Shaun completed in 2021. Shaun enjoys all areas of canine and feline medicine but is particularly interested in liver disease.
