Acute and Long COVID: The Potential for Non-Invasive Vagus Nerve Stimulation (nVNS)
In the United States alone, more than one million Americans have died of COVID-19 related complications. While newer therapeutics and diminished viral virulence have helped stave off death, increasingly, clinicians are seeing the longer-term sequelae of the disease. The CDC estimates that nearly one in five American adults who have had COVID-19 still have Long COVID with continued fatigue, neurological, pulmonary, cardiac, and GI symptoms. Non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) holds the potential not only to decrease the severity of the acute presentation, but also to address the disordered state leading to Long COVID.

By attending this program, you will:
● Learn the spectrum of clinical presentations of Long COVID
● Understand how nVNS activates the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway
● Become acquainted with mechanisms to decrease neuroinflammation and inflammatory biomarkers
● Examine the study design and progress of an nVNS study on Long COVID
● Discover how a hand-held, patient-delivered device can safely stimulate the vagus nerve for potential treatment of acute and Long COVID
