Conversation with Lead Special Ed. Attorney, Kristin Hildebrant
Kristin Hildebrant is a senior attorney at Disability Rights Ohio (DRO), Ohio's Protection and Advocacy Agency for people with disabilities. Kristin has practiced in the area of disability and special education law for 33 years and leads the special education and employment teams at DRO. Kristin received her law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

Kristin has represented children and parents in special education cases and individuals with disabilities in class-based litigation. Kristin has been lead attorney in state-wide class action litigation involving Ohio's implementation of Medicaid's Early and Periodic, Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) program for children, and Ohio’s developmental disabilities system. She is a frequent speaker on the topic of special education, juvenile justice and the school to prison pipeline and disability law.

This presentation will cover important issues and rights in special education, including the laws that protect students with disabilities, how children can be eligible for special education, evaluations to determine educational need, IEPs and 504 plans, services and supports, parental rights, and dispute resolution options.
