A conversation with Professor Nancy MacLean, author of "Democracy in Chains", interviewed by Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Dave Hage
Professor MacLean's award-winning book, "Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America" is an astute guide to the politics of the last half century. She shows today’s political dysfunction results from economic theories originating in the South’s resistance to civil rights mandates. Decades later they were put into action with massive funding by the Koch Brothers and their network. MacLean asserts their specific targets include undermining campaign finance laws, voter suppression, environmental and labor regulations and programs like Social Security and Medicare.
